- Research Name Optimization of cervical cancer screening by HPV test among women living with HIV in Cameroon (OPTITRI)
- Category MATERNAL, CHILD & ADOLESCENT HEALTH
- RESEARCH YEAR 2023 – 2026
Cervical cancer (UCC) is a major cause of death among women living with HIV/AIDS (WHA) in resource-limited countries. Screening for precancerous cervical lesions is an effective way to reduce the incidence of this cancer. The use of an HPV test is the most sensitive method for identifying precancerous lesions. However, as HPV infection is very common, particularly in HIV-positive women, secondary triage is needed to identify women at highest risk of cervical lesions and who should be treated.
The overall objective of this research is to improve UCC screening by HPV testing and visual inspection triage among HIV-positive women in a health district in Cameroon.
